A lot of lessons learned by Piastri after falling short of F1 glory

Oscar Piastri believes that he has learned a lot from the 2025 Formula One season after giving it "absolutely everything" in Sunday's season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Piastri crossed the line in second behind race winner Max Verstappen with McLaren team-mate Lando Norris crossing the line in third, clinching his first world title in the process.

The Australian knew the difficulty of overhauling both Norris and Verstappen to become the world champion, having entered the weekend 16 points off the championship lead.

His race started well after overtaking Norris on the opening lap, but the Briton was able to maintain his composure to become the 35th different title winner in the competition.

"We gave it everything," Piastri said when asked if he was satisfied with his race.

"We tried a gamble on strategy, tried everything to try and win the race and give ourselves the best chance to win the championship, but we didn't have the pace today."

Piastri had led the way by as many as 34 points following August's Dutch Grand Prix, a race that saw Norris retire because of an oil leak whilst running in second.

The 24-year-old topped the standings from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix to the Mexico City Grand Prix, with a run of poor results late in the season proving his undoing.

Indeed, following his race win in Zandvoort, Piastri managed just three podiums from the final nine races of the campaign, allowing Norris to overtake him.

"It's been a fun challenge, I think," Piastri said. "Obviously, at certain points, maybe it doesn't feel that fun.

"But I think it's been a really enjoyable season for both of us probably, and I'm saying that as someone who is not the champion."

When it was put to Piastri that Norris said he had learned from his team-mate, he said that it was nice to know it goes both ways.

"I've learned plenty along the way," Piastri said. "Even in the last three years, I've learned things every weekend from what Lando does, and it's nice to know it goes both ways.

"So there's plenty more years to come of intense weekends and tight battles, but ultimately, I think that's made both of us better drivers and I think in some ways contributed to the success both of us have had this year."

Despite the dispiriting end to the season, Piastri spoke of the lessons he's taken this year. "I think when things have been good this year I've felt unstoppable at points," he said.

"To even be able to get to that point is a pretty cool feeling to have. There's been plenty of times when that's not been the case and I think I've learned a lot of lessons in how to deal with tough moments, adversity from different directions, so ultimately I've learned a lot about myself.

"I've obviously been in championship battles before in the junior categories, but in F1 it's got a little bit extra to it, so I've learned plenty about that this year and that will only help me going forward."
