Alexander Zverev booked his spot in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters with a straight-sets victory against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

The third seed won 6-2 6-4 in an hour and 35 minutes to set up a last eight clash against a familiar foe in Daniil Medvedev.

Zverev broke Davidovich Fokina’s serve in just the third game of the match before having three break points of his own in the following game.

The German converted one more break point before serving out the first, and the pair traded serves to start the second.

Although Davidovich Fokina looked stronger with his serve in the second, the pressure told in the seventh game when Zverev forced two break points and converted the second.

And Zverev did not look back, clinching victory in the French capital with his first match point.

Data Debrief: A familiar face in Paris

Zverev has now reached the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters for the fifth time, with only Novak Djokovic doing so more often among active players (11).

It is also his 19th win in the competition, the third-most among active players after Grigor Dimitrov (25) and Djokovic (50).

However, a tough task lies ahead for Zverev in Medvedev. He has lost each of his last five meetings against Medvedev, including two this year, and 13 of the previous 15 matchups.
