WNBA: Ogwumike leads Storm past Wings
Nneka Ogwumike amassed 23 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Seattle Storm to their first win of the 2025 WNBA season, a 79-71 victory over the Dallas Wings on Monday.
The Storm also received 21 points and nine assists from Skylar Diggins and 17 points from Gabby Williams to bounce back from an 81-59 loss to the Phoenix Mercury in Saturday's season opener.
Monday's game featured a head-to-head matchup of the top two picks in this year's draft, Dallas' Paige Bueckers and Seattle's Dominque Malonga. Bueckers led the Wings with 19 points and eight assists, while the 19-year-old Malonga played just one minute while recording two points.
Dallas, which opened its season with a home loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Friday, also got 12 points each from NaLyssa Smith and Maddy Siegrist.
The Storm went a sizzling 9 of 11 from 3-point range in the first half to open up a 56-41 lead at the break, though they went cold in the third quarter as the Wings closed the gap.
Dallas got back in it with an 11-0 run, highlighted by a pair of Siegrist 3-pointers, to pull to within 64-61 inside the final minute of the period.
Seattle was able to pull away in the fourth quarter, however. Ogwumike and Ezi Magbegor each had a pair of baskets during an 8-0 run that stretched the Storm's lead to 74-63 with four minutes to play.
