Kelsey Plum's next game will be in a Phoenix Mercury uniform.

The Mercury acquired Plum on Sunday from the Los Angeles Sparks in exchange for Monique Akoa Makani, a first-round pick in next year's draft and a second-round selection in 2028.

The five-time WNBA All-Star has been sidelined since June 21 because of a lower leg injury, but was expected to suit up for the Sparks in Sunday's game against the Portland Fire.

She now will likely play in Phoenix's next game, which is Monday at the Chicago Sky.

Plum was leading the Sparks in scoring and assists, averaging career bests of 23.9 points and 6.4 assists in 12 games, as well as 2.2 rebounds. She is also shooting a career-high 52.7 per cent from the field and 38.3 per cent from 3-point range.

A two-time WNBA champion, Plum now goes from a Los Angeles team that was 5 1/2 games out of a play-off spot to a Phoenix team that is six games from the play-off cutoff with 14 games to play.

It certainly appears to be a risky move for the Mercury (11-19), considering Plum will be a free agent after this season.
