LeBron James turned in a "vintage" display to "save" the Los Angeles Lakers, so said Luka Doncic, after the NBA veteran tallied up 29 points against the Philadelphia 76ers.

James scored 29 points as the Lakers edged out the Sixers 112-108 on Sunday.

The 40-year-old's display came after he had failed to score 10+ points in a regular-season game for the first time since 2007 in Thursday's win over the Toronto Raptors.

James scored 10 straight points in the final quarter against the Sixers, and Doncic hailed his teammate's game-winning turn.

"I mean, that was amazing," Doncic said.

"That was vintage Bron. We're happy he was there to save us."

The Lakers, who are now 17-2 for the season, claimed their first win in Philadelphia since 2017.

James is now second on the all-time list for wins in the regular season, with his tally of 1,015 ranking only behind Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1,074).

"At 40 years old, I mean, it just takes a while for my body to kind of get back into a rhythm," James said.

"So it felt good tonight to kind of feel like myself a little bit.

"I've had so many of those moments that it never gets old, and that's the one thing you won't be able to get back when you're done playing is that arena.

"That excitement of going out and either the excitement or the boos and the cheers or whatever the case may be. You'll never be able to get that back once you're done playing.

"To do it [and go on a scoring spree] in a win is even more important. To be able to come up clutch in a win, that's even more exciting."

Doncic, meanwhile, poured in 31 points despite just returning from a long trip back to Slovenia, which he had made earlier last week to be in attendance for the birth of his daughter.

"I don't even know how to describe it," Doncic said. "It was a lot. I was there for the birth of my daughter, so that means everything to me. But it was definitely a roller coaster."
