Veteran spinner Ashwin calls time on IPL career
Ravichandran Ashwin has announced the decision to end his Indian Premier League career.
The 38-year-old played for the Chennai Super Kings last season, but has also represented the Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and Rising Pune Supergiants during his career.
Ashwin has taken the fifth-most wickets in the competition with 187, behind Yuzvendra Chahal (221), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (198), Sunil Narine (192) and Piyush Chawla (192).
The spinner won the IPL title with Chennai, his home team, in 2010 and 2011, before making his return to the franchise in 2025.

In a statement released on X, Ashwin said: "They say every ending will have a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins.
"[I] would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and, most importantly, the IPL and the BCCI for what they have given me until now. [I] look forward to enjoying and making the most of what's ahead of me."
Ashwin now has the option to play franchise cricket in Australia, South Africa and England, as the BCCI does not allow any current player in Indian international or domestic cricket to feature in overseas T20 leagues.
