'This one was a lot of redemption' – Clark wins US Open after 2025 meltdown
Wyndham Clark labelled his US Open win as a "redemption" story after his "unfortunate" actions at the event in 2025.
Clark won his second US Open title on Sunday at Shinnecock Hills by one shot, holding off a late surge from Sam Burns for what is also his second major title.
After maintaining a healthy lead heading into the final round, Clark opened the door for Burns to stage a comeback after carding 73 in his final round, as he finished on four under after his four rounds.
Burns got through his final round in 67 shots to finish on three-under, falling short of his first major title; this was his best finish at a major.
Clark is the first wire-to-wire US Open champion since 2014, when Martin Kaymer won at Pinehurst.
Clark, however, was relieved to bounce back from his meltdown last year, when he shot 74-74 to miss the cut and smashed a locker on his way out.
"The first one [2023 win] was a breakthrough of knowing I can do it. This one was a lot of redemption," said Clark after winning his second major.
"Last year was so tough, a terrible year. I left [last year's US Open at Oakmont] in a shambles. It's amazing what a year can do. I'm leaving here as a champion and I'm just so blessed.
"New York didn't really like me. I get it. Some of it is self-deserved.
"I did some unfortunate things last year that I really regret. I've been sorry multiple times and I'm still sorry. Hopefully I can win you guys over eventually. I get it. They were rooting for Scottie."

Scheffler was within a chance of victory ahead of the final round, but finished tied fourth, four shots behind Clark.
The world number one praised the performance of the eventual winner in front of a hostile crowd in New York.
"The crowd was tough. New Yorkers are tough people," said Scheffler.
"Sometimes it can get a little too much when balls are going off greens and you start hearing cheers. That felt a bit much to me.
"It shows a lot about Wyndham, how he handled not only this golf course but the crowd as well and he is a well-deserving champion."
Kim Joo-hyung finished third on one under, while a poor run from Rory McIlroy saw him finish tied 32nd on six over.
