Manchester City have triggered a one-year contract extension to keep Vivianne Miedema at the club until June 2027.

Miedema, the Women's Super League's all-time top scorer, joined City in July 2024, signing a two-year deal with the option for an extra year.

Her time at City has been plagued by injury, but she has been a key part of City's title charge in 2025-26, starting all 16 league games so far.

She has also scored the second-most goals for City in the WSL this term (eight, behind Khadija Shaw's 15), while also providing five assists from 29 chances created.

"It's something [Director of Football] Therese [Sjogran] came up with quite early on in the season," Miedema told City's website of extending her contract.

"She was like: 'I know that it’s still far away, but we really want to keep you'. For me, I've always said that to her as well, there's no place I'd rather be right now than City.

"The steps we've made this season are really good, and I'm really excited to see what that leads to in the end this season, but also next season.

"We've signed amazing players, our team is getting stronger and stronger. The way we are connecting right now can mean we can make an extra step and a next step, too."

City currently sit eight points clear of Manchester United at the top of the WSL table as they chase their first title since 2016.
