Khadija Shaw has signed a new four-year contract with Women's Super League champions Manchester City in a surprise U-turn, having appeared set to leave on a free transfer.

Shaw was one of several high-profile WSL players whose contracts were due to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, alongside Chelsea icon Sam Kerr and Arsenal greats Beth Mead and Katie McCabe.

Kerr, Mead and McCabe left their respective clubs, and Shaw was also expected to seek pastures new, having been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.

But on Monday, City surprisingly confirmed the Jamaica international had penned a new long-term contract, keeping her with Andree Jeglertz's team until 2030.

Shaw announced the news herself during City's end of season celebrations, saying: "I am still here, I am still hungry and there is no place I would rather be."

City's director of football Therese Sjogran said: "We're delighted that Bunny has agreed to another four years at Manchester City.

"We've had a tremendous 2025-26 campaign, and she's been a key figure in that success. I'm sure if we also get the result we're hoping for in the FA Cup final on Sunday, she'll have played a huge role in that as well.

"The stats and awards speak for themselves, but there’s so much more to Bunny than what she does on the pitch.

"She has become a real leader in the team and I'm sure she'll be a driving force on our return to Champions League football next season and in our push to retain the WSL title."

Shaw scored 21 WSL goals in 2025-26 as City ended a decade-long wait to be crowned champions for the second time.

She fell one goal short of the single-season competition record of 22, but still surpassed 100 WSL goal involvements (now 101 – 83 goals, 18 assists), becoming the sixth player to reach that milestone after Vivianne Miedema (138), Mead (124), Bethany England (114), Nikita Parris (107) and Fran Kirby (104).

She is the first player in WSL history to win three consecutive Golden Boots after also leading the scoring charts in 2023-24 and 2024-25, and she will hope to net in a Wembley final on Sunday as City face Brighton in the FA Cup showpiece.
