'That was my fault' – Doncic accepts blame after Suns end Lakers' win streak
Luka Doncic shouldered the blame for the Los Angeles Lakers' loss to the Phoenix Suns, pointing to his nine turnovers.
The Lakers suffered a 125-108 loss to the Suns on Monday, snapping their seven-game winning streak despite making a strong start.
Doncic scored 20 of his 38 points in the first quarter, marking the third time in the last four games he has scored 20+ points in the opening frame.
Level at 31-31 heading into the second quarter, Los Angeles could not maintain their momentum, with Doncic committing four turnovers, and Austin Reaves doing the same.
The Slovenian's nine turnovers tied a career-high, with all of those resulting in steals for the Suns, and Doncic was not happy with his performance.
"That was my fault," Doncic said. "No way I can have nine turnovers in a game.
"I feel like it definitely was a different defense than other teams [play]. Kind of trying to let me go score instead of creating for others.
"So, it was kind of confusing, but like I said, just can't have it."

The Suns lost leading scorer Devin Booker, who scored 11 points in the first 10 minutes, to a groin injury, but it did not slow them down, with Dillon Brooks stepping up.
He had 33 points, while Collin Gillespie set career highs with 28 points and eight 3-pointers, with Booker agitating the Lakers crowd again, having been treated with disdain since comments made about LeBron James in 2023.
Booker seemingly celebrated with gestures similar to James' celebrations, with the 40-year-old waiting at the Suns bench in a third-quarter timeout to speak with him.
"I love playing in this arena," Brooks said. "They show me a lot of love in here, and I reciprocate it back.
"I'm a competitor, man. I don't really like the smiling and the giggling and all that, so just letting them know that I'm here. And I'm still rising."
