Teenager Pretorius makes history on day one of South Africa-Zimbabwe Test
Lhuan-dre Pretorius became the youngest player to score at least 150 runs on their Test debut as South Africa posted 418 on day one of the opening match against Zimbabwe.
Nineteen-year-old Pretorius was making his first red-ball appearance for the Proteas as they began their two-match series at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
He showed no signs of being overawed by the occasion, despite stepping up to the crease with his team in a hole at 23-3.
Wiaan Mulder was then run out for 17 as the hosts dropped to 55-4, but Pretorius showed discipline beyond his years with a knock of 153 off 160 deliveries faced, including 11 fours and four maximums.
Only four Test debutants have ever hit a century at a younger age than Pretorius, while nobody has hit 150 runs on debut while younger than him (19 years, 93 days old).
When Pretorius finally handed Wellington Masakadza a catch off the bowling of Tanaka Chivanga, who ended the day with figures of 4-83, South Africa had reached 289-7.
But another 100, this one an unbeaten knock from Corbin Bosch, ensured South Africa amassed further runs before stumps, and he will resume alongside Kwena Maphaka (nine) on Sunday.

Data Debrief: Pretorius makes history
Pretorius' knock saw him overhaul Pakistan's Javed Miandad as the youngest player to score 150 on their Test debut, with Miandad having achieved the feat at the age of 19 years and 119 days versus New Zealand, way back in 1976.
And of the four players to score a debut Test century while younger than Pretorius, three (Mohammad Ashraful, Hamilton Masakadza and Saleem Malik) did so in the second innings.
Only Prithvi Shaw (18 years, 329 days) has achieved the feat in the first innings of their debut match while younger than Pretorius, though the India batter fell on 134 runs against the West Indies in that 2018 match.
Pretorius only needed 157 balls to bring up his 150, making it the fastest 150 ever scored by a South African man in Test cricket.
