Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out for the remainder of the T20 World Cup after the Sri Lanka spinner suffered a hamstring tear.

Only Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan (50) has taken more wickets at the T20 World Cup overall than Hasaranga's 40.

Hasaranga also ranks fifth on the all-time list of most T20I wickets, having racked up 154 in the format, behind Rashid Khan (188), Tim Southee (164), Ish Sodhi (162) and Mustafizur Rahman (158).

Hasaranga took figures of 3-25 to frustrate Ireland's chase as co-hosts Sri Lanka made a winning start to the tournament on Sunday, but an MRI scan subsequently revealed a tear in his left hamstring.

Sri Lanka will now be without the 28-year-old for the remainder of the competition, having also lost Eshan Malinga to a shoulder injury he suffered in a T20I against England.

Sri Lanka face Oman in their second match in Group B on Thursday, with meetings with Australia and Zimbabwe to follow.

Dushan Hemantha has been brought into Sri Lanka's squad as a replacement, and given they have no spinners in reserve, he could go straight into their lineup against Oman.
