T20 World Cup: Farhan fires Pakistan into Super 8s
Sahibzada Farhan scored a brilliant century to ensure Pakistan thrashed Namibia and reached the Super 8s stage at the T20 World Cup.
Needing a win to progress after their heavy loss to rivals India last time out, Pakistan recorded an emphatic 102-run victory in Colombo on Wednesday.
Victory for Pakistan ended the United States' chances of progressing from Group A. USA had needed Namibia to spring a surprise, but that always looked unlikely after Pakistan elected to bat and raced up to 199-3 from their 20 overs.
Opener Farhan scored an unbeaten 100 from 58 balls as he batted right through the innings, scoring 15 boundaries which included four maximums.
Pakistan had appeared to be stalling at 55-1 after eight overs, with Saim Ayub previously removed for 14 in the powerplay, but Farhan smashed three sixes in a 22-run ninth over to really get things moving.
He was impressively supported by captain Salman Agha (38 from 23) and Shadab Khan (36 from 22) as Pakistan reached an imposing total.
With the pressure on for a huge chase, Namibia's batters struggled throughout and were bowled out for 97 after just 17.3 overs, with the Pakistan spinners doing most of the damage.
Usman Tariq took 4-16 while Shadab followed up his good showing with the bat by going 3-19 as Pakistan claimed the eighth and final spot in the next round, where they will next face New Zealand on Saturday.

Data Debrief: First T20I hundred for Farhan
Coming into this game, Farhan's career-high score was 80 not out against Sri Lanka in November, and he had reached fifty on nine occasions in T20Is without going on to three figures.
His first century also took him to the top of the tournament run-scoring charts. He now has 220, giving him a decent lead over Aiden Markram (178) and Tim Seifert (173).
This result means that aside from losing to USA in a dramatic Super Over at the 2024 edition, Pakistan have won all of their other 22 men's T20Is against associate teams.
