West Indies head coach Daren Sammy believes the winner of their T20 World Cup clash with England will depend on "which team executes better with the ball".

Both countries made a winning start to their Group C campaign, with West Indies beating Scotland by 35 runs before England edged past Nepal on Sunday.

With debutants Italy making up the group, this encounter in Mumbai could decide who finishes in top spot.

England have won their last two matches against West Indies at the T20 World Cup after losing their first five encounters; the winning team has bowled first on the day in six of those seven games.

The two sides memorably met in the 2016 final, when Carlos Brathwaite hit four consecutive sixes against Ben Stokes in the last over of the match to win the showpiece for the Windies.

And despite all the big-hitting that has become synonymous with both England and West Indies, Sammy insisted that bowlers hold the key to victory at the Wankhede Stadium.

"It's a battle. It's going to be a battle," said the Windies' head coach.

"And we've got to be smart. Both teams have that power. I think it will rely on which team executes better with the ball. Because I think we could match each other when it comes to six-hitting.

"We've always been entertainers, and England has also been entertaining. The surface here at Wankhade tells you [that] you need to put some good runs on the board if you bat first.

"Everybody now hits sixes and they run really well between the wickets. They score off more balls. So we have a lot to do. But then we just probably might have to hit more sixes then, something we were able to do when we dominated during that [2016] era."
