Spurs centre Wembanyama reportedly cleared to return from blood clot
When the San Antonio Spurs open the 2025-26 NBA regular season, Victor Wembanyama is expected to be on the court.
Wembanyama told the French newspaper L'Equipe that he has been fully cleared to play basketball from a blood clot in his shoulder that ended his 2024-25 season in February.
The French newspaper revealed the news of Wembanyama's status on Monday.
"I’m officially cleared to return. … I'll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again," the 7-foot-4 centre told the publication.

Wembanyama's 2024-25 season ended just days after appearing in his first All-Star Game, when the Spurs announced he would be shut down after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his right shoulder.
The 2023-24 NBA rookie of the year was the favourite to win the 2024-25 defensive player of the year award before his season abruptly ended.
Despite appearing in just 46 games, the 21-year-old still finished the season with a league-leading 176 blocks - 28 more than the next-closest player, Brook Lopez of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Wembanyama finished the season with averages of 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.8 blocks, making him the first player since Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal in 1999-2000 to average at least 24 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks while playing 40 or more games in a season.
