Arne Slot insisted he and Mohamed Salah both have the same interests amid the Liverpool stalwart's social media comments about the club's playing style.

Salah caused a stir last weekend as he suggested that Liverpool should return to the "heavy metal" football that proved so successful during Jurgen Klopp's time in charge.

The Egyptian's social media post was liked by several of the Reds' squad, only heightening speculation that Slot may leave the club at the end of the season.

Liverpool's final game of the Premier League season sees them take on Brentford, knowing a point would be enough to secure a return to the Champions League next year.

Sunday's encounter at Anfield will also be Salah's last after he confirmed earlier this year he would be bringing the curtain down on his glittering career on Merseyside.

The 33-year-old has played 441 games for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 257 goals and providing 119 assists, though some pundits believe that Salah's outburst, which was not his first this season, should see him be left out of his Anfield farewell.

When asked whether Salah's comments had an impact on the players, Slot said: "I don't know if it had an impact on the group.

"What I have seen is the team have trained really well this week, and we hope to continue really well in the upcoming two days, so we are really prepared.

"I think Mo and I have the same interests – we want the best for this club. We want the club to be as successful as possible.

"We were both part of giving the fans their first league title in five years – but we are also aware of this season.

"What we want, what he wants and what I want is for the club to be as successful as last season.

"That is where my main focus is at now, because the game on Sunday could give us a real base heading into next season. That is where we should focus."

Slot remained tight-lipped on Salah's involvement against Brentford, adding: "I never say anything about team selection. It would be a surprise to you if I did it right now, I think."

The Liverpool boss instead shifted focus towards Liverpool's push for the Champions League, with the Reds fifth and three points behind Europa League winners Aston Villa.

A win for Liverpool, coupled with a defeat for Unai Emery's side away to Manchester City, will be enough to seal fourth place, while also opening up a sixth spot for UEFA's flagship competition for either Bournemouth or Brighton.

Slot's pre-match press conference was dominated by his stance on Salah, though he remained solely focused on the task at hand.

"I don't think it is that important what I feel about it," Slot added.

"What is important is that we qualify for the Champions League on Sunday, and I prepare Mo and the rest of the team to be ready for the game in the best possible way.

"That is what matters. I was very disappointed after our loss against Aston Villa, because a win would have given us qualification for the Champions League – which we didn't do.

"Now there is one game to go, and it's a vital one for us as a club."
