Andy Farrell hailed his Ireland side's resilience as they defeated Wales 27-17 to keep their Six Nations hopes alive.

Jacob Stockdale and Jack Crowley both crossed the line for Ireland in the first half, but a brilliant solo try from Rhys Carre just before the break kept Wales in the match.

Nevertheless, tries from Jack Conan and Jamie Osborne after half-time wrapped up victory and secured a much-needed bonus point for Ireland as they put pressure on France in top spot.

Ireland have now won five consecutive matches against Wales for the first time in any iteration of the competition.

Ireland have also won 23 of their last 25 home games against European sides, with France the only side to defeat them in that period (2021 and 2025), a run which dates back to 2019.

Farrell told ITV Sport: "I thought it was a proper Test match as they should be.

"Credit to Wales they were outstanding certainly getting better defensively. They made it a scrap so to come away with a bonus-point win, happy with that.

"We defended really well in the first half but we switched off just before half-time and when you do that you get punished.

"We showed some good character and we had good people on the bench who came on and made a difference for us, so it's a hard-fought win and we'll take the bonus point."

Ireland's Jamison Gibson-Park added: "Happy to get the win against a tough Welsh side, we knew they would put it up to us and they certainly did that so we're really happy with the win."

"All we could do was go out and get five points, which we did, although a bit scrappy but we got there in the end."

Ireland will face Scotland in their final match of tournament, though France could have already retained their title by that point if they beat Scotland on Saturday with a bonus point.
