Jannik Sinner beat Flavio Cobolli in straight sets to seal his spot in the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open.

The first seed won 6-2 7-6 (7-4) in an hour and 48 minutes to set up a last eight clash against Alexander Bublik in Austria.

It was a straightforward first set for Sinner, with the world number two converting two break points while not giving away any of his own.

And although Sinner was just as strong with his first in the second, Cobolli managed to save four break points to force a tiebreak.

However, he just seemed to delay the inevitable as Sinner clinched the win in the tiebreak with his first match point.

Sinner will be joined in the quarter-finals by Alexander Zverev after the German defeated Matteo Arnaldi 6-4 6-4.

Zverev needed to convert just one break point in each set on his way to victory, with a tie against Tallon Griekspoor up next for the second seed.

Elsewhere, Corentin Moutet carried out his revenge on Daniil Medvedev with a 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 victory in Austria.

Less than a week after Medvedev beat Moutet in the Almaty final, the Frenchman stormed through the tie-break in the first before breaking Medvedev's serve three times in a row for the win.

Data Debrief: Friendly fire from Sinner

Cobolli may have hoped his Italian compatriot would take things easy on him, but history suggests differently.

Sinner is now 17-0 against Italian players, while he has also won his last 18 matches in indoor events.

Zverev, meanwhile, became the fourth player to reach 50 tour wins this year and advanced to his 12th quarter-final of the season, with only Carlos Alcaraz reaching the last eight of tournaments more often (13).
