Scheffler laments 'one of those days' after poor start at Pebble Beach
Scottie Scheffler lamented "one of those days" as he finished the first round at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am down the leaderboard.
Scheffler carded a frustrating 72, which included three bogeys, to finish Thursday's play way off the leader at Spyglass Hill.
The world number one is at level par, 10 shots off the pace set by Ryo Hisatsune.
Keegan Bradley and Sam Burns are T2 on nine under, while Chris Gotterup, who stretched his birdie streak, is part of a three-strong pack on eight under.
"I feel like typically I'm good at scoring and today I felt like I didn't score at all," Scheffler said.
"Like anything that kind of went wrong seemed to be going that direction and I just felt like I scored poorly. I actually feel like I'm playing pretty well, [it was] just one of those days.
"I guess the challenge [at Pebble Beach] is making a bunch of birdies. I'm looking at the leaderboard on behind you right now and it looks like seven under gets you in the top 10, so scores are pretty low.
"When you're playing later in the day it can be tough to hole putts on these greens."

Defending champion Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, slipped up with a pair of double-bogeys.
Though he nailed an eagle and six birdies, the five-time major champion made successive double-bogeys on par threes to end the day on a four-under 68.
Fresh from his triumph in Phoenix, though, Gotterup – who finished off his triumph last week with three straight birdies – carded six birdies across his first six holes.
Gotterup became just the eighth player in the past 25 years to open a PGA Tour event with at least six birdies.
"I was kind of just coasting along," Gotterup said. "You don't really realise it in the moment, and then when you look up you're like, 'Wow, I'm six under through six.' That's nice."
