Russell: Singapore Grand Prix victory my most dominant weekend
George Russell believed he produced his most dominant weekend to date as he stormed to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix ahead of Max Verstappen.
Russell started on pole and remained at the front of the pack throughout the race, crossing the line 4.219 seconds ahead of the Dutchman for a fifth career triumph.
Indeed, the Mercedes driver became the 49th driver in the history of Formula One to surpass 400 laps in the lead in the competition, with this race taking his tally to 405.
He has now reached 23 podiums in his F1 career, eight of which have come in 2025, equalling his best tally in a single season, where he also managed eight three years ago.
The race saw early drama as McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided on the opening lap, with the former clipping his team-mate on the inside.
However, the pair recovered to finish third and fourth, respectively, ensuring McLaren retained their Constructors' Championship title with six races of the season remaining.
Russell's Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli finished fifth, followed by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Reflecting on his performance, Russell described the weekend as perhaps his most dominant despite early struggles in practice and qualifying.
"Vegas was pretty cool, to be honest. But I would say this was probably my most dominant weekend, all in all, and because it was so unexpected," Russell told Sky Sports.
"I was struggling on Friday, I was struggling Saturday morning, and even in Q1 didn't feel great, but come Q3, I felt really on it.
"And the race today, the start was mega. Stint one was probably one of the best stints I have done in my career, to pull that 10-second gap to Max, and that was ultimately what gave us the win.
"There is usually a lot of overheating on this circuit, but they re-Tarmaced some of the corners, and for whatever reason, the tyres weren’t overheating as much. I think that was the reason.
"I was a bit nervous at the beginning when I saw Max [Verstappen] on the soft [tyre], but that first stint was great from us and extended the gap."

Russell has now scored points in each of his last 10 races, the best current streak of any driver in F1.
With an average of 13.17 points per grand prix, the Briton is enjoying his best scoring average in a single year in the competition.
Despite his recent stretch, Russell finds himself 99 points behind championship leader Piastri.
Russell also revealed that he was not expecting to excel in Singapore and was surprised at the performance of his car.
"I mean I said it yesterday, if I were going to make a list of all the races I think we would be good at this year, Singapore would probably be right at the bottom," Russell added.
"I think we need to sit down on Monday and Tuesday to sort of understand why the performance was so good.
"I hope we can carry this through to the rest of the season, but I think realistically Lando [Norris] looked incredibly fast."
