Ricky Ponting says Punjab Kings "haven't achieved anything yet" as they prepare for their Indian Premier League play-off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Punjab sealed their top-two finish with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians on Monday, finishing above RCB due to a superior net run rate.

It is the first time Punjab are featuring in the play-offs since 2014, while captain Shreyas Iyer is the first player to lead three different teams to this stage.

Head coach Ponting has instilled a winning mentality in the team, but says he is not satisfied with what they have achieved so far.

"I'm obviously very pleased for the group," Ponting said. "It's a lot of hard work that goes into being able to achieve something like this as a team.

"I think it's pretty obvious to see that this is a really talented team where [we] all are on the same page and heading in the same direction.

"I mean, yeah, it's a great achievement till now, but really, if you look back, we haven't achieved anything yet. That's the one thing I've been saying to the players since the moment we qualified.

"The vision for me was always to finish in the top two, and we've got there now. It's a really happy group, and we've enjoyed our time in each other's company for the last ten weeks, but we've got another week to go yet.

"The real serious stuff starts now."

Among the ten batters who have scored over 500 runs in the season, Shreyas' strike rate of 171.90 is second only to Nicholas Pooran's 196.25.

He is the highest run-scorer for Punjab this season with 514, rounding out the top 10 in the race for the purple cap.

Shreyas was surprisingly released by last season's IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, but he is excited to be entering the play-offs yet again.

"[I'm feeling] excited, to be honest, and it's a great achievement for the franchise and all of the players," Shreyas said.

"Their hard work has paid off. Right from day one, our mindset was to go out and win. We weren't thinking about the play-offs, we were thinking about winning the championship, and that was our mindset.

"We are definitely going to give the fans the best game possible."

Punjab face RCB in the first of the IPL play-offs on May 29.
