Nick Nurse paid tribute to the longevity of Kyle Lowry after the 39-year-old guard officially joined the NBA's 20-season club on Sunday.

Lowry was surprisingly introduced for his first action of the season as the Philadelphia 76ers built up a commanding lead over the Brooklyn Nets.

In doing so, Lowry becomes just the 12th player to appear in 20 different seasons, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Jamal Crawford and Udonis Haslem in playing in exactly 20 campaigns.

"I guess he gets his 20th season officially in the books now by hitting the court," 76ers coach Nurse later said.

"Who would have thought it for Kyle Lowry 20 years ago, right?

"He's really done a great job, I think, just being part of our leadership group.

"Obviously, when the players are pulling for him out there, you can see that he's well-liked, well-respected, all that kind of stuff."

Lowry was introduced with 3:12 remaining of the 76ers' eventual 129-105 victory and made his only shot – a 3-pointer – with 1:19 left.

The six-time NBA All-Star also registered a steal and an assist in the contest at Barclays Center, with his teammates seen celebrating.

"They are so happy for me," said Lowry, who also works as an analyst for Amazon Prime's NBA coverage.

There are question marks over how much longer – if at all – that streak will extend for Lowry, who won the NBA title with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

"That's a Hall of Famer we're talking about," 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey said of his teammate.

"Jersey's probably getting retired in Toronto. And he's up cheering for everybody, motivating people, talking in the locker room.

"I've got nothing but love and respect for K-Low and we appreciate having him."

The 5-1 76ers are level with the Chicago Bulls at the top of the Eastern Conference after the win over the 0-6 Nets.
