Cameron Norrie produced a stunning comeback as he saved match point on his way to reaching the fourth round of the Canadian Open after dumping out third seed Alex de Minaur.

De Minaur, who was the highest-ranked seed left in Montreal, squandered a three-game lead in the second set as Norrie emerged a 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 victor.  

The third seed started brightly and broke Norrie's serve in the first game of the match, only for the Briton to reel off the next three games and roar into a commanding 4-1 lead. 

However, De Minaur dusted himself down and took the match to Norrie, drawing level despite having to save three game points in the seventh game to keep the first set alive. 

And with his back against the wall, De Minaur was able to take the opening set after 62 minutes of enthralling action, and the second proved no easier for the Australian. 

De Minaur got the better of Norrie's serve in the third game and hammered home his advantage in the seventh game to go within one of advancing to the next round. 

But Norrie fought back impressively and won three consecutive games to level things up at 5-5, with a tie-break needed to decide which way the match would swing. 

And it went in Norrie's favour to force a decider, and that is where he turned on the style. He needed just 32 minutes to win the third set, sealing his incredible turnaround when De Minaur sent a forehand long.

“The level was so high the first two sets,” Norrie said in his on-court interview.

“From the beginning, [Alex] came out firing and I was like, ‘Woah, this is a crazy level’, and I had to match it.

"I was just trying to play point for point. No time to think. I just stayed point for point and I managed to win [the third set] 6-1. It was a great match to win and to test my level and I can take so much confidence from this one.”

Elsewhere, 19-year-old Rafael Jodar also reached the last 16 in Montreal after cruising to a 6-4 6-3 victory over Lorenzo Musetti.

Norrie has De Minaur's number

Norrie now has a 14-46 record against top-10 ranked opponents in his career, though his previous win against such opposition also came against De Minaur at the Indian Wells earlier this year. 

Since 2000, Norrie is the first left-handed player from Great Britain to reach the round of 16 on multiple occasions at the Canadian Open.  

Jodar, meanwhile, is just the fifth teenager in the past two decades to reach the round of 16 at 3+ consecutive ATP Masters 1000 events, after Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Denis Shapovalov and Carlos Alcaraz.
