San Antonio survived an injury scare to star Victor Wembanyama and rallied to defeat New York 134-132 on Wednesday in the teams’ first meeting since the Knicks beat the Spurs in the NBA Cup final.

Wembanyama appeared to injure his left leg when he came down while going for a rebound with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game.

The 7-foot-4 center hobbled to the locker room but returned to San Antonio’s bench with 1:22 left and didn’t seem to be limping.

Wembanyama had 31 points and 13 rebounds in 24 minutes, and the Spurs (24-9) were down by six points when he exited.

San Antonio, though, persevered without Wembanyama, outscoring the Knicks by 13 points over the final eight minutes to avenge a 124-113 defeat to New York in the NBA Cup final on December 16.

Julian Champagnie led the way for the Spurs with a career-best 36 points and franchise-record 11 three-pointers, and De’Aaron Fox scored 26 to go along with seven assists as San Antonio avoided a season-high third straight loss.

New York (23-10) had their three-game winning streak end despite having four players score at least 20 points, led by Jalen Brunson’s 29.

Thunder roll past Trail Blazers

The Oklahoma City Thunder routed the Portland Trail Blazers 124-95 as the defending NBA champions continued to put their first slump of the season in the past by posting a third consecutive win.

Oklahoma City (29-5) began the 2025-26 campaign with eight straight victories before suffering their first loss on November 5 against Portland (14-20).

The Thunder followed that defeat with 16 consecutive victories before falling to the San Antonio Spurs in the semi-finals of the NBA Cup, the beginning of a stretch of four losses in six contests prior to this three-game run.

Reigning league MVP and NBA Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 30 points, six assists and four steals in 29 minutes before sitting out the final quarter of the Thunder’s easy win.

Sidy Cissoko scored 19 points for Portland, who were denied a season-best-tying third straight win.

Cavaliers end Suns’ win streak

The Cleveland Cavaliers used a dominant run spanning the third and fourth quarters to pull away for a 129-113 victory that snapped the Phoenix Suns’ four-game winning streak.

Cleveland (19-16) led by 13 points at half-time before Phoenix (19-14) stormed back to pull within 91-89 in the last minute of the third.

The Cavaliers then responded with a 24-5 run to seal their second straight win after a stretch of 10 losses in 15 games.

Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 34 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals, Darius Garland had 19 points and six assists, Jaylon Tyson scored 18, Sam Merrill added 16 points, and Jarrett Allen (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Evan Mobley (16 points, 10 rebounds) recorded double-doubles.

The Suns got 32 points from Devin Booker as they failed in their bid to win five in a row for the second time this season.
