NBA free agent Beasley reportedly being investigated for gambling
NBA free agent Malik Beasley is reportedly being investigated for gambling allegations.
The United States District Attorney's office initiated the probe of Beasley related to NBA games and prop bets, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
"We are cooperating with the federal prosecutors’ investigation," NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement released to media outlets on Sunday.
This investigation comes just over one year after the NBA suspended the Toronto Raptors' Jontay Porter for life for violating league rules by disclosing confidential information to sports bettors.
Beasley was considered one of the top guards in the free agent market after averaging 16.3 points this past season to help the Detroit Pistons reach the play-offs for the first time since 2019.
He ranked second in the NBA in 3-pointers made with 319 - one fewer than the Minnesota Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards - and shot 41.6 per cent from 3-point range.
