Mavericks star Davis likely out for season
Anthony Davis is expected to undergo surgery on his left hand and miss the rest of the season, another injury setback for the 10-time All-Star during his tenure with the Dallas Mavericks.
Davis sustained ligament damage in Dallas’ 116-114 loss to the Utah Jazz on Thursday while guarding Lauri Markkanen.
It was just the 20th appearance of the season for the oft-injured Davis and his 29th overall with the Mavericks (15-25) since being acquired in the trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last February 2.
Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.65 blocks this season for Dallas, who have been rumoured to be shopping the defensive standout in an attempt to build around No. 1 overall draft pick Cooper Flagg.
