Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic insisted "as long as we're winning, I'm good," after continuing his stellar start to the 2026-27 NBA season.

Doncic scored 53 points as the Lakers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 124-118 at Crypto.com Arena on Friday.

The Slovenian also added five assists, five rebounds and one steal in the victory, with the Lakers moving to 8-2 on the season.

Doncic is averaging 40.1 points per game, becoming only the second player in NBA history to average 40+ PPG through their first nine games of a season, after Wilt Chamberlain.

The former Dallas Mavericks guard is also the first Laker since Kobe Bryant in January 2012 to score 40+ points in four consecutive games.

No NBA player has averaged at least 40 points across an entire season since Chamberlain in 1962-63 (44.8), with Michael Jordan's average of 37.1 points per game in 1986-87 the highest in the league during the 3-point era.

While Doncic is on course to make history and potentially win a maiden MVP in the NBA, his main focus is on his team's success.

"It's obviously a long season," Doncic said. "We're 10 games in. We've got 72 left.

"As long as we're winning, I'm good. I got [the shots] up today, I'm not going to lie. Hopefully, it continues, but you never know."

Lakers coach JJ Redick added: "Luka can do some things that maybe a handful, if not no one, can do in basketball."

Doncic will look to extend his impressive scoring run when the Lakers face the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.
