Gabby Williams hailed the Golden State Valkyries' "beautiful culture" after they secured the WNBA title in just their second season with a 68-63 win over the Atlanta Dream.

The WNBA Finals went all the way to Game 7 – the first one ever in the competition's history – with the Dream pegging back the Valkyries every time they took the lead in the series.

But the Valkyries came out on top on Saturday, with Williams finishing on 30 points, including each of Golden State's last 11 in the third quarter.

The Valkyries, who were formed in 2024, won in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 18.000 fans at San Francisco's Chase Center.

"It's easy when the energy is this good and positive," said Williams, who joined from the Seattle Storm at the start of the season. "I wouldn't change a thing.

"All it took was good people. We have winners; we have people who are ready to put their bodies on the floor to win a game.

"They don't care about scoring. They just want to do defence and rebounding. Do whatever it takes, and we built a beautiful culture here.

"I just walked into a group full of love. And that just changed the entire trajectory of my career."

Twenty-eight of Williams' points came in a stunning second-half performance, while Tiffany Hayes got 11 points and Veronica Burton added 10.

"It's incredible. She's a humble superstar," Burton said of Williams. "She's the reason we're here.

"At halftime she was like, 'I just got to get going'. Once she got going, there was no stopping her.

"She hit shot after shot and got stop after stop. She gets it done on both sides of the floor."

As for the Dream, who were led by Jordin Canada's 18 points, they lost the WNBA Finals for the fourth time in their 18-year history.
