Marcus Smith returns to England's starting XV as Steve Borthwick makes four changes for their crucial Six Nations clash with Wales.

Borthwick's side must beat the Welsh in Cardiff on Saturday to stand any chance of winning the championship, while hoping table-topping France fail to beat Scotland.

Marcus Smith, who dropped to the bench for last weekend's victory over Italy, returns at full-back, while Tom Roebuck, Ben Curry and Luke Cowan-Dickie also come in.

Tommy Freeman moves across to outside centre to replace the injured Ollie Lawrence, with Elliot Daly moving to the wing and Roebuck taking Ollie Sleightholme's place on the other for his first start of the championship.

George Ford is named among the replacements for the first time in this Six Nations campaign, and could earn his 99th cap, while youngster Henry Pollock could debut from the bench.

Meanwhile, Will Stuart will win his 50th Test cap in the front row, and Borthwick hailed the prop ahead of his landmark appearance.

"Reaching 50 caps is a well-deserved milestone for Will, and a testament to the hard work he's shown throughout his career," the England coach said.

"We're excited to see him reach this landmark on Saturday, and look forward to seeing him continue delivering performances at the highest level."

On the game, Borthwick added: "We're excited to face Wales at the Principality Stadium this weekend, one of the most iconic venues in rugby.

"The atmosphere will be electric, and we know we'll need to be at our very best to get the result we're aiming for."
