Reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova has suffered a thigh injury ahead of her title defence at the All England Club.

Krejcikova was set to face France's Varvara Gracheva in the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne Open but had to withdraw due to her injury.

The two-time grand slam winner beat British pair Harriet Dart and Jodie Burrage in the first and second round respectively, with both matches going to three sets.

Krejcikova first felt the pain in her win over Burrage, but the injury worsened ahead of her last eight clash.

"I'm very sorry to have to withdraw from my quarterfinal today in Eastbourne as I'm having some soreness in my right thigh," Krejcikova said in a statement.

"Overnight it just didn't get any better; it actually got worse. I think it's better with Wimbledon in the next couple of days just to rest it and to see what's going on and to resolve that."

Krejcikova, ranked 17th in the world, is scheduled to play the first match of her title defence on Tuesday.

She beat Jasmine Paolini 6-2 2-6 6-4 in the final last year, becoming the second-lowest ranked player (world number 32) to win the women's singles title at Wimbledon since the WTA rankings were published in 1975.
