Dhruv Jurel scored an unbeaten century as India took complete control of the second Test against Sri Lanka on Monday.

India ended day two with a lead of 495 runs, after they declared and then took two wickets before the close of play in Colombo, with the hosts on 8-2 at stumps.

The tourists' strong showing came on the back of Jurel's sparkling 115 not out, as he built on Devdutt Padikkal's ton on day one.

Saransh Jain managed 6 before he was dismissed by Asitha Fernando (106-4), meaning Rishabh Pant came back to the crease after retiring hurt on Sunday.

Pant went on to tally up 63 from 83 deliveries, forming a fine partnership with Jurel.

Keshara Nuwantha (2-154) ended Pant's stand, before Prabath Jayasuriya (2-132) did for Manav Suthar (18) and Mohammed Siraj (3), with India declaring on 503-9.

India then had a devastating three-over spell with the ball in which Prasidh Krishna (1-1) dismissed Lahiru Udara (1) and Jayasuriya was pinned lbw by Suthar (1-6) before play was stopped for bad light.

Sri Lanka's prospects look bleak

Dark clouds gathered overhead as Sri Lanka started their chase, and debutant Kamil Mishara (5) could only watch on, either side of a delay caused by the weather, as his fellow batters fell by the wayside in a terrible start for the hosts.

It capped a miserable day for Sri Lanka, who will have been thankful to see play called off early, in order to avoid further damage.

They came into this Test looking to tie the series, but realistically, they are now so far behind the eight ball that all they will be playing for is a draw.

Jurel, though, was the star of the show. The 25-year-old scored a half-century in the first Test, and he now has a second ton in the longest format to his name.

India will have been delighted with the display of Pant, who battled through the pain of a bruised wrist to clip his way to an impressive total, and this match is now very much in their hands.
