Ravindra Jadeja was the star of the show on a wicket-filled day two in Kolkata as India moved closer to victory in the first Test against South Africa.

After India were bowled out for just 189, with a first innings lead of 30, Jadeja took four wickets for 29 runs to leave the tourists 93-7 at stumps.

KL Rahul (39) and Washington Sundar (29) started day two at the crease, but were dismissed within five overs of each other, while Shubman Gill (four) retired hurt with a neck injury.

Rishabh Pant (27 off 24) was looking dangerous before being caught off the bowling of Corbin Bosch (1-32), while Simon Harmer (4-30) and Marco Jansen (3-35) ripped through the middle and lower order.

However, South Africa could not take advantage when they returned to bat, with Kuldeep Yadav (2-12) removing Ryan Rickleton (11) before Jadeja dismissed Aiden Markram (four) and Wiaan Mulder (11) shortly afterwards.

Tony de Zorzi (two) and Tristan Stubbs (five) failed to reach double figures before becoming Jadeja's latest victims, while captain Temba Bavuma (29 not out) held his ground and will start day three at the crease alongside Bosch (one not out).

Data Debrief: Spinners take the spotlight

After Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul took the headlines on day one, the spinners stole the show at Eden Gardens on day two.

Of the 15 wickets that fell on the second day, 12 were taken by spinners as Harmer and Jadeja found their rhythm with ease.

Rahul's 39 was the highest score across both first innings. It is the lowest 'highest individual score' across the first two innings of a men's Test in India, and the fewest such score in any men's Test since these two nations faced off in Durban in 2010.
