Justin Langer confirmed he has not "heard from anyone" regarding the vacant England Test coach job but said he would not rule out the possibility.

Langer coached Australia in 2018-2022 and has been heavily linked with the role since Brendon McCullum was relieved of his red-ball duties earlier this month.

The leading candidates for the job reportedly include Stephen Fleming, Richard Dawson, Jonathan Trott and Tom Moody, while Marcus Trescothick could be used as an interim appointment for the next Test series, which begins on August 19 against Pakistan.

Andy Flower had been the initial front-runner, but he ruled himself out of contention.

England's managing director Rob Key is said to have been making contact with several candidates in recent weeks, but Langer revealed he had not heard anything.

"No, I haven't [heard from Key], no," Langer said on an episode of the Stick to Cricket podcast.

"No, I haven't heard from anyone. You read all this [speculation]... It's all paper talk, it's all rumours.

"There's three coaching roles in the world as a coach [that anyone would consider]. The Australia head coach, the Indian head coach, and the England head coach.

"But it's all hypothetical, isn't it? When it comes to coaching, it's a career, and everyone looks at all opportunities, don't they?"

While McCullum has stepped down from England's Test side, he remains in charge of their white-ball set-up.

England initially moved away from a split-coaching structure in early 2025, and Langer expects there to be teething issues between McCullum and his successor to start with.

"I've got no idea," he said, when asked to speculate on who might fill the role.

"They're going to have to work really well with Baz, and they've got to be really clear in their vision.

"Great leaders, you've got to be really clear in your vision, what you stand for, and then you go forward from there."
