IPL: Gill outshines Sooryavanshi to lead Titans into the final
The Gujarat Titans will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League final as Shubman Gill's century led them to a seven-wicket win over the Rajasthan Royals in Friday's Qualifier 2.
After seeing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smash 96 from 47 deliveries, Gill stepped up and plundered 104 to help the Titans chase down their target of 215 with eight balls remaining.
The Royals were put immediately on the back foot when Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) was caught by Prasidh Krishna off Mohammed Siraj's bowling inside the first over of the match.
Dhruv Jurel (7) fell soon after, but Sooryavanshi, along with Ravindra Jadeja took the match to their opponents, with the former reaching his half-century in just 31 balls, which was his slowest to get to that score in the IPL this season.
Jadeja had to retire through injury on 45 in the eighth over, which unsettled the Royals as Jason Holder dismissed Riyan Parag (3) and Dasun Shanaka (3) in quick succession.
However, Sooryavanshi got them back on track as he came within four runs of a century before he edged to Krishna, though a late flurry from Donovan Ferreira (38) helped his team end on 214-6.
And the Titans' chase started strongly through Sai Sudharsan and Gill, with the pair notching 69 during the powerplay, and their opening stand lasted until the 13th over when Sudharsan inadvertently hit his own wicket when his bat slipped out of his hand on 58.
Gill's immense innings came to an end soon after when he was bowled lbw by Jofra Archer (1-45), but Jos Buttler (9) and Rahul Tewatia (17) got the Titans over the line, with the latter sealing the win with a six.

Data Debrief: Super Sooryavanshi's heroics in vain
Having hit the joint-fastest 50 in an IPL play-off during the Royals' victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, Sooryavanshi shone once again for his team as he smashed yet more records on Friday, but it was not enough.
The talented teenager brought up 1,000 runs in the IPL after facing just 440 balls, surpassing the previous record held by Andre Russell, who did so in 545. In addition, he now has 130 boundaries in the competition this season, going past the previous record of 128 held by Buttler four years ago.
But the Titans have their own batting prowess in Sudharsan and Gill. The pair now have 11 century stands between them in the IPL, which is the most in the competition, while their display also helped their team record their second-highest successful chase in any knockout of play-off match in any T20 tournament.
