Anthony Edwards never had any doubt that his late 3-pointer to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder would be successful, saying he makes that same shot "1,000 times a week".

The Thunder – who started 24-1 off the back of winning the NBA Championship last year – were dropped to 25-3 with Friday's 112-107 road loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Having missed three games with soreness in his right foot, Edwards made a triumphant return for Minnesota, putting up 26 points and 12 rebounds.

He capped his starring performance with the go-ahead 3-pointer 38.5 seconds from the buzzer, then grabbed a rebound to tee up two clinching free throws for Julius Randle.

Reflecting on his decisive 3-pointer, Edwards said: "I'm not passing the ball. I knew it was going up. When it left my hand, I knew it was going in.

"He played great defense. It was a tough shot. But I probably shoot that shot 1,000 times in a week when I'm in the gym, so it felt like a natural shot."

But Edwards was keen for the Wolves to remain grounded, pointing out that Oklahoma were playing the second game of a back-to-back and retained the league's best record.

"That's just one win, man. That's a regular-season win," Edwards added. "They're the best team in the league by far."

Donte DiVincenzo added 15 points for the Timberwolves, and he could not help but admire Edwards' clutch shot with time running short.

"At the end of the day, we're putting the ball in his hands and asking him to bring us home," DiVincenzo said. "That's exactly what he did."

Minnesota are back in action against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday, having started the season 18-10.
