Grizzlies trading Morant to Trail Blazers
The Memphis Grizzlies are trading former NBA Rookie of the Year Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for forwards Jerami Grant and Kris Murray.
Memphis selected Morant with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, and he went on to average 17.8 points, 7.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 67 games to earn Rookie of the Year honours.
The 26-year-old point guard then averaged 24.1 points, 7.4 assists and 5.2 boards in 181 contests over the next three seasons while earning two All-Star selections and leading Memphis to three straight play-off appearances.
Morant, however, began having off-court issues and was suspended for eight games for posing with a gun for a video in a Denver nightclub in March 2023.

Less than two months later, he was suspended for 25 games for brandishing a firearm during a social media live stream.
Morant returned to NBA action on December 19, 2023, but only appeared in nine games before needing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
He played in 50 games in 2024-25 but was limited to 20 appearances last season due to numerous injuries.
Grant has spent the last four seasons of his 12-year career with Portland and averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 57 games in 2025-26.
Murray was the 23rd overall selection in 2023 and played in 188 games, including 50 starts, for the Trail Blazers.
He averaged 5.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in a career-high 23.4 minutes per game last season.
