Shubman Gill and Kagiso Rabada will miss the second Test between India and South Africa, which begins on Saturday.

South Africa paceman Rabada missed the first Test, which South Africa won by 30 runs, due to a rib injury, and he has not recovered in time.

Rabada will also miss the white-ball series, with the teams facing off in three ODIs and five T20Is.

"The injury has been closely monitored by the Proteas medical team, and due to ongoing discomfort in the affected area, Rabada has been withdrawn from the remainder of the tour," Cricket South Africa said in a statement.

"He will continue the initial phase of his four-week rehabilitation program with the Proteas medical team before returning to South Africa at the conclusion of the second Test."

India will also be without a key player, with captain Gill ruled out due to a neck issue he sustained during the first Test.

Gill travelled to Guwahati with the squad but the BCCI stated he will require "further assessment of his injury".

Rishabh Pant will take over the captaincy in Gill's absence.
