Harry Brook has urged England to "come back stronger" after suffering their second straight ODI defeat to New Zealand.

Blair Tickner took four wickets as Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell put on half-centuries in a five-wicket win for New Zealand at Seddon Park on Wednesday.

The Black Caps have now taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, which concludes on Saturday.

And captain Brook, who will be part of the England Test team that takes on Australia in the Ashes, starting next month, wants his side to show their mettle next time out.

"Disappointing to say the least," Brook said.

"We have got to come back stronger and better and hopefully get at least one win against these boys who are second in the rankings.

"We want to go out and entertain the world. It was only two or three games ago that we got 400 against South Africa. It is not far away.

"They are nice wickets to bat on. It is just trying to get through the first 15 or 20 balls of your innings. Hopefully, we can have a good game on Saturday."

England have now lost their last nine ODIs away from home.

New Zealand, however, have won three straight ODIs against England, while they have won 11 successive matches in the format at Seddon Park.

"It was a great game from us. The boys were exceptional," said New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner.

"We knew it was going to be a challenging chase, especially with the likes of Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer.

"Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra did a hell of a job to get us through the powerplay."

Tickner, who finished with figures of 4-34, was only called up at the last minute.

He said: "It felt really good, I didn't expect it, I just thought I was going to run some drinks.

"Last night I was having a BBQ and I saw a message. It's awesome to play.

"Taking early wickets is the way it goes. The boys up front did well and I just finished the job off."
