Thick fog at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow led to India's fourth T20I against South Africa being abandoned without a ball being bowled on Wednesday.

India established a 2-1 lead in the five-match series when they triumphed by seven wickets in the third contest in Chelian on Sunday, but they were denied the chance to wrap things up with a match to spare.

Six inspections took place to ascertain whether play was possible in poor visibility, with play finally abandoned just after 9pm local time.

India must now win Friday's final match in Ahmedabad to claim the series 3-1. The Proteas, who can now hope for a series draw at best, have lost 20 of their 33 completed T20Is against India (W13), their most defeats against any opponent in the format.
