Fourteen-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced the best score by any India batter in Under-19 World Cup history as they defeated England in Friday's final.

Suryavanshi – who last year made the second-fastest century in Indian Premier League history while representing the Rajasthan Royals – smashed 175 off just 80 deliveries.

An astonishing 150 of those runs came via boundaries as he plundered 15 fours and 15 sixes – the most by any batter in a single innings in youth ODIs.

Suryavanshi opened for India alongside Aaron George (9) and his mammoth score meant England were always playing catch-up, even if they reduced India from 251-3 to 375-8.

Having eventually been bowled out for 411, India never looked likely to relinquish their advantage, even if Caleb Falconer's impressive 115 off 67 salvaged some pride for England, who were skittled for 311.

Suryavanshi said afterwards: "We just thought that, with how we had done well in the tournament, we'd just follow our process and play our natural game.

"The preparation had been good, not only during the Asia Cup, but for the last eight or nine months. Only the players know how hard we have worked in that period. I have faith in my skills, that I can contribute in big games, and today it happened."

Data Debrief: Suryavanshi fires India to glory

As well as breaking Raj Bawa's record for the highest score by an India player at the Under-19 World Cup (previously 162* in 2022), Suryavanshi brought up 439 runs for the tournament as a whole.

That is the second-most by an Indian batter at a single edition, after Shikhar Dhawan's 505 in 2004.

India have now won six editions of the Under-19 World Cup, extending their record over Australia (four) and Pakistan (two) – no other nation has triumphed more than once.
