England skipper George Ford hailed his team-mates for finding a way past a stubborn Argentina side, as Jack van Poortvliet's last-gasp try sealed a 2-0 series victory on Saturday.

Travelling to San Juan off the back of a 35-12 victory in La Plata last week, England lost Ford's co-captain Jamie George on the morning of the game as he was called up by the British and Irish Lions, ahead of their opening Test against Australia.

Argentina held England level at 17-17 for much of the second half, but Van Poortvliet went over in the 79th minute following good work from fellow replacement Guy Pepper.

Having seen 15 players called up to Andy Farrell's Lions squad, Ford was delighted to see England roll with the punches and claim an impressive 22-17 victory.

"We found a way in the end. We had a lot of opportunities in the 22 but couldn't get over the line, I'm proud of the boys," Ford said afterwards.

"I liked our fight, our togetherness, showing how much we care.

"There was some great stuff, we should have scored more tries, but the attitude of the group is great."

England conclude their tour of the Americas next Saturday, when they face the United States at Audi Field in Washington D.C.
