Five-star Bumrah powers India to strong start against South Africa
Jasprit Bumrah starred for India as he restricted South Africa on day one of the first Test with a five-for at Eden Gardens.
India made a strong start thanks to their impressive bowling performance as they dismissed South Africa for 159, and trail by 122 runs heading into day two.
Aiden Markram (31) and Ryan Rickelton (23) opened with a first-wicket partnership of 57 runs before Bumrah (5-27) sent stumps flying to dismiss the latter in the 11th over.
From there, the tourists failed to gain any momentum, with Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj also getting two wickets apiece.
Wiaan Mulder (24) and Tony de Zorzi (24) were the only other players to score more than 20, with none of South Africa's lower order able to hit double figures.
South Africa lost five wickets for 13 runs as they struggled to 159, though India failed to make a fast start after the switch.
Marco Jansen (1-11) stopped Yashasvi Jaiswal on 12 as India stumbled to 37-1 in the 20 overs before stumps, and KL Rahul (13 not out) and Washington Sundar (six not out) will be hoping to hit the ground running on day two.

Data Debrief: India start on front foot
It initially looked like South Africa could be on for a high score, but once Bumrah hit his groove, India took total control.
He took his 16th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, and moved to joint-fifth on India's all-time record, with Bhagwath Chandrasekhar.
South Africa recorded their lowest-ever first-innings total against India despite a first-wicket partnership of 57 – Bumrah also conceded nine runs in his five overs during that time.
