Fitzpatrick delighted after edging Scheffler in RBC Heritage play-off
Matt Fitzpatrick called his victory at the RBC Heritage "special" after he defeated world number one Scottie Scheffler in a play-off.
Scheffler carded a 67 on Sunday to put the pressure on Fitzpatrick, who let a four-shot lead slip in the final round, which ended with a bogey on the 18th.
However, the Englishman regained his composure in the play-off, sinking a birdie on the first hole to claim his second RBC Heritage win in four years.
After also winning the Valspar Championship last month, this victory moves Fitzpatrick to world number three.
"To win it twice means the world," Fitzpatrick told Sky Sports. "To go toe-to-toe with Scottie and get over the line at the 73rd [hole] is special.
"I wanted to win that play-off so badly. To hit the shot that I did into a green that was like glass was awesome.
"[It took] A lot of grit. I felt like I got off to a great start. Poor three-putt on two. You felt like what could have been. But I would have taken it at the start.
"I knew Scottie was going to make a few birdies on the final stretch. I kind of had to hang in there a little bit."

Scheffler, meanwhile, has now finished runner-up in successive weeks, having finished second to Rory McIlroy at the Masters.
The world number one felt his early rounds cost him again in South Carolina, though he praised Fitzpatrick for an impressive display.
"I think in both weeks I put myself behind the 8-ball going into the weekend and had really nice Saturdays and Sundays in order to get myself into contention," Scheffler said.
"On Sunday it's a shot here or there that makes a difference. This was one of those weeks where anytime Fitzy needed something to happen, he made something happen.
"He definitely earned the win, and he just played great golf."
