Robert MacIntyre is not letting the pressure rest on his shoulders ahead of The Open and is confident he can give himself a chance of victory.

MacIntyre made his major debut at The Open back in 2019, at Royal Portrush, and finished tied for sixth as Shane Lowry claimed the Claret Jug.

He has registered three top-10 finishes at the tournament in total, and five overall, coming closest to his first major title at last year's U.S. Open, though he finished second.

MacIntyre is now in the top 20 in the rankings and received a confidence boost heading into the tournament by finishing third at the Scottish Open.

And he has no doubt that he can challenge at the top of the leaderboard on the final day of The Open, with his eyes on the trophy.

"In 2019, I felt like I was just being part of the tournament," MacIntyre said. "I was making up the numbers. I was just seeing how well I could do in this event.

"Whereas now, I come here, and I know that if I play well, I've got a chance to win.

"That's all I'm trying to do. If I play the golf I know I can play, I'm going to have a chance to win come Sunday – and that's the difference.

"In 2019, I didn't know how good I was. I didn't know how good I could be. I was just playing with zero expectation and had a good finish.

"Now there's an expectation and demand on me, but it's not pressure. I know if I play well, I'll have a chance."

MacIntyre's only two wins on the PGA Tour came back in 2024, as he won the Canadian Open and Scottish Open that year.

The Open remains the only event in which MacIntyre has made the cut in every appearance, and he is looking to get a big result in the final major of the year.

In 2026, he missed the cut at both the Masters and the PGA Championship, while he finished tied for 39th at the U.S. Open.
