Ferrari have taken a 'big step' after Monaco practice, says Verstappen
Charles Leclerc completed a perfect Friday for Ferrari after topping both practice sessions at the Monaco Grand Prix, which saw Oscar Piastri finish in second.
Leclerc, who won his home race for the first time last year, finished 0.038 seconds ahead of Piastri, who ran straight into the barriers at Ste Devote in the second session.
The Monegasque's team-mate, Lewis Hamilton, ended the day in third, signifying a remarkable turnaround for the Scuderia from a week ago at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
McLaren's Lando Norris was fourth fastest, 0.322secs off the pace, ahead of Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar, who had two crashes during the session.
Hadjar's first incident saw him hit the inside wall at the apex of the Nouvelle Chicane, but he only suffered a puncture and damaged well, but broke his rear suspension later on.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was seventh fastest, ahead of Williams' Alex Albon, Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who rounded out the top 10.
"Monaco is always quite tricky with traffic, but two times today it was quite dangerous - in FP1, then one time in FP2 - which is not ideal," said Verstappen.
"I know it's practice, but it could have been quite a big crash if you don't back out of it quickly or read the situation, but luckily everything went well."

Leclerc played down Ferrari's chances of a win in Monaco, with the 27-year-old aiming to become the first driver to win back-to-back races at the circuit since 2015.
And he endured an incident-packed first session in front of his home crowd, taking to the escape road at Mirabeau on his very first lap.
Leclerc then hit the rear of Aston Martin's Lance Stroll at the Loews hairpin, after the Canadian veered into the Ferrari's path while on a slow lap.
That damaged the Ferrari's front wing, but Leclerc was able to continue, with Stroll handed a one-place grid penalty for a lack of awareness for the incident.
Verstappen also suggested: "Ferrari again look very fast. McLaren were close behind, but over the whole season, the pace, Ferrari have taken a big step forward here."
