Farrell impressed with Lions' patience after passing Western Force test
Andy Farrell was impressed by the way his British and Irish Lions side remained patient after surviving a wave of early pressure in their 54-7 win over Western Force.
Having lost 28-24 to Argentina in the opening game of their 2025 tour in Dublin, the Lions put on a show in the second half of their first game on Australian soil on Saturday.
Five of the Lions' eight tries came after half-time, with the tourists pulling clear following an even start.
Nic White got the Force's lone try in the fifth minute after Dan Sheehan opened the scoring for the Lions, and a series of penalties then saw the Lions penned back.
The Lions conceded nine penalties during the game – four more than they committed against Argentina last week – but Farrell was impressed by the way they recovered their composure after a difficult start.
"It's a new-ish team. We showed plenty of learning from last week and it should be the same again from this week," Farrell told Sky Sports.
"When we got our composure in the second half, we were able to be nice and calm. Let's be honest, the Force took it to us. I thought they played a tough, high-percentage game.
"They kept the ball really well and we kept them in good field position through our ill-discipline.
"It was a really good test for us in that first half; I was glad about how we composed ourselves at half-time and kept our composure throughout the second half."
The Lions' starting lineup in Perth featured five debutants with four more coming off the bench, and Farrell will continue to hand chances to new faces in the coming weeks.
"There are nine new caps there. A couple of lads have not played but they will get to play in the next couple of games," he continued.
"It is nice to get tries on the board and we had a few good individual performances. That is all good for the future, and we have to keep pushing one another."
The Lions' next fixture pits them against Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Wednesday, as they continue to build towards the first of three Tests with Australia on July 19.
