Edgecombe hits winner as 76ers top Grizzlies in OT
VJ Edgecombe capped another impressive night with a tie-breaking 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds remaining in overtime, and the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 139-136 on Tuesday.
The victory snapped a three-game skid for Philadelphia.
Edgecombe, the third overall pick in this year’s draft, made five 3-pointers and finished with 25 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Joel Embiid had one of his best statistical games of the season, posting 34 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Tyrese Maxey also scored 34 points and added 12 assists.
Ja Morant scored a season-high 40 points for the Grizzlies, shooting 16 of 22 from the field. Morant scored the final four points of regulation for either team to force overtime.
Rookie Cedric Coward had 28 points and 16 rebounds but missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game to a second overtime period.
Leonard, Clips extend streak
Kawhi Leonard scored 33 points to stay red-hot, James Harden added 21 points, and the Los Angeles Clippers extended their winning streak to a season-high five games with a 131-90 romp over the Sacramento Kings.
Leonard’s performance came two days after he tied the franchise record with 55 points against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.
During the Clips’ five-game winning streak, Leonard is averaging 37.8 points and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 46.5% from 3-point range.
On Tuesday, Leonard had 26 points at half-time as Los Angeles took its foot off the gas in the second half. He finished 11 for 19 from the field and added five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
The veteran Clippers’ 6-21 start was shocking to most prognosticators, but they appeared to have found their rhythm on their current streak.
Nique Clifford scored a team-high 18 points off the bench for the Kings, who continue to play without Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine due to injury.
Pistons top Lakers on James’ birthday
LeBron James 17 points, four rebounds and four assists on his 41st birthday, but the Detroit Pistons pulled away in the second half to spoil the party, beating the Los Angeles Lakers 128-106.
James became the 12th player in NBA history to appear in a game at age 41 or older as he plays through his record 23rd season in the league.
Cade Cunningham had 27 points and 11 assists to pace the East-leading Pistons, while Marcus Sasser scored 19 off the bench.
Detroit rebounded from back-to-back losses as it finished its five-game road trip 3-2.
Luka Dončić netted 30 as the leading scorer for the Lakers, who have lost four of their last five games.
