South Africa stormed their way back into their T20I series against India after Quinton de Kock's impressive haul propelled them to a 51-run win.

Having soundly won in the first match of the series, India were unable to muster a response in the chase as South Africa levelled the series at 1-1.

Two days ago, South Africa were only able to muster 74 runs, but they started on the front foot in Punjab, despite Reeva Hendricks being dismissed for eight by Varun Chakaravarthy (2-29).

De Kock plundered 90 runs from 46 balls faced and enjoyed a successful 83-run partnership with Aiden Markram (29) for the second wicket.

Though the wicketkeeper was run out by Jitesh Sharma with the tourists on 156-3, Donovan Ferreira (30 not out) and David Miller (20) pushed them to 213-4.

The hosts started poorly, though, losing their first four wickets for just 67 runs before Tilak Varma's 62 steadied the ship somewhat.

However, India lost their final five wickets for just five runs as Ottneil Baartman (4-24) came to the fore in the closing stages, dismissing Shivam Dube (one), Arshdeep Singh (four) and Chakaravarthy (0) in the 19th over as they only mustered 162 in the chase.

Data Debrief: South Africa stop the rot

India had won each of their last three T20Is against South Africa, but they struggled to get going on Thursday after losing the toss.

While De Kock stole the headlines, there was a landmark for Markram, who became the sixth player to reach 1,500 men's T20I runs for the Proteas, as his total of 29 took him to 1,510.

India's batters clearly struggled, but their bowlers were also culpable; they bowled 15 wides, including seven in one Arshdeep Singh over, and 13 full-tosses as they were troubled by the conditions.
