Devon Conway said it had been "quite a few months" for him as he put his T20 World Cup frustrations behind him in New Zealand's win over South Africa.

Conway scored 60 to lead the Black Caps to a 68-run victory over South Africa in the second match of their five-game T20I series, which is level at 1-1.

The 34-year-old, who was born in South Africa, did not feature for New Zealand at the T20 World Cup, with the Black Caps reaching the final before going down to co-hosts India.

Having returned to the fold for this series, was dismissed for just a solitary run in the first T20I, but his 49-ball knock proved decisive on Tuesday.

"It was trying to build a partnership, trying to calm myself down," he said.

"It has been quite a few months for me, going to India and not featuring in the World Cup."

New Zealand put on 175-6 from their 20 overs, with Wiaan Mulder taking 2-14 for the Proteas.

George Linde (33), however, was the only South African batter to put on a decent score as the tourists were bowled out for 107.

Lockie Ferguson took 3-16 and Ben Sears finished with 3-14 as the Black Caps' bowling attack carved through South Africa's order.

"I think we bowled really well but lost our way with the bat," said South Africa captain Keshav Maharaj.

"There was dew but the pitch got worse to bat on. As a seam-bowling unit, the guys have done really well. And there was some salvaging from George with the bat, so there were some positives."
