Cobolli stuns home favourite Zverev to reach Munich showpiece
Flavio Cobolli booked his place in the Munich Open final, after defeating reigning champion Alexander Zverev in straight sets.
The 23-year-old won 6-3 6-3 in just 69 minutes, as first seed and home favourite Zverev missed out on reaching another showpiece.
The first set was straightforward for Cobolli, who converted his only break point on the way to taking the lead.
Cobolli continued that momentum into the second set, breaking Zverev's serve in the first game and putting the German under immense pressure.
The Italian converted another break point to go 5-2 up, and though Zverev got one break back, he only delayed the inevitable as the world number 13 clinched victory with his first match point.
Cobolli will meet Ben Shelton in the showpiece, after last year's finalist secured a 6-3 6-4 win over qualifier Alex Molcan.

Data Debrief: Zverev downed in the semis again
Cobolli recorded his first-ever win over a top-five opponent on the ATP Tour, doing so with 32 winners and losing just eight points on his first serve.
The Italian is also just the third player this year to reach a Tour final on both clay and hard courts, after Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Zverev, meanwhile, has now lost four consecutive semi-finals, having fallen to Sinner at three straight ATP Masters 1000 events at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo.
